Financed-emissions accounting · from Sri Lanka to the world

Measure the carbon inside your loan book — and stand behind the number.

Datum Solutions helps banks and insurers measure their financed and insurance-associated emissions — the way SLFRS S1 and S2 now require. We start with Sri Lanka's institutions and the local data global tools overlook, and carry the same discipline outward. Specialist method, work that holds up under audit.

CarbonIQ

The products

Two tools. One measurement engine.

Datum is a carbon consultancy — but the method only holds if the software does, so we build our own. The same measurement core runs both products: a live tracker for construction, in production today, and a financed-emissions tool for banks and insurers, in ongoing development. The people who set the method write the engine, so a figure a Datum specialist signs comes from a tool we own — not a licensed black box.

Live in production

CarbonIQ · for Construction

A live embodied-carbon tracker — not an EPD or LCA authoring tool.

Most carbon software writes one document and stops. CarbonIQ runs alongside the build: it tracks actual emissions against the tender baseline as materials are booked, surfaces the material hotspots driving the number, and holds every contractor to a reduction target. A live ledger, not a certificate — the walk measured against the talk. Nothing else on the market does exactly this.

CarbonIQ · for Finance

Closing the reconciliation gap on financed emissions.

A bank pledges its portfolio's carbon down. Projects complete. Did the pledge hold? Almost no lender can answer — and a missed environmental pledge increasingly means real fines. CarbonIQ for Finance measures financed and insurance-associated emissions with the recognised global method for the sector, tests them against the taxonomy and national targets, and reconciles what was promised at approval against what was actually emitted at completion.

  • Financed & insurance-associated emissions
  • Taxonomy alignment — CBSL SLGFT and regional frameworks
  • NDC / SDG mapping and green-loan certificates
  • End-of-project pledge reconciliation

The thing being measured

Your biggest climate exposure isn't your office. It's your portfolio.

A financial institution's own operations — buildings, travel, electricity — are a small fraction of its carbon. The overwhelming majority sits in what it finances: the emissions of the companies it lends to, the projects it funds, and the risks it underwrites. In carbon-accounting terms these are Scope 3, Category 15 emissions, and for most banks and insurers they are well over 90% of the total. Until recently they went unmeasured. Under new disclosure rules, they can't.

Lending & investment

Financed emissions

The emissions of the businesses, projects, real estate, mortgages and vehicle loans a bank finances, allocated to the bank in proportion to its share of the financing.

Why now

Disclosure stopped being optional.

SLFRS S1 and S2 are Sri Lanka’s adoption of the ISSB’s IFRS S1 and S2, issued here by CA Sri Lanka. Under them, financial institutions must report the emissions behind their lending and underwriting — not just their own operations. Alongside sit the Central Bank’s Green Finance Taxonomy and the country’s own NDC commitments. All of it means putting a defensible figure against a portfolio, using a recognised method, with data you can trace to its source. It is a specialist job, and most global tools were never built with Sri Lankan data in mind.

What we do

The method, the technology, and someone who sits with your team.

01

A specialist, embedded

Forward-deployed delivery: a carbon specialist works inside your team and configures the method to your actual book — not a licence key and a manual.

02

One engine, every framework

The same measurement core serves financed-emissions reporting, the Green Finance Taxonomy, GCF readiness and NDC/SDG disclosure. Measure once, report many ways.

03

Numbers you can defend

Every figure carries a data-quality score and a clear trail back to its source, so it survives an auditor's questions.

Why Datum is different

Engineering rigour, pointed at a loan book.

Financed-emissions advice usually comes from people with a finance or ESG-reporting background. Datum comes at it from the measurement side — life-cycle assessment, embodied and whole-life carbon, EPD validation, and accredited ISO 14064 GHG verification — and applies that rigour to financial portfolios. A GHG Lead Verifier and embodied-carbon engineer measuring a bank's book is a rare combination, and it is where the accuracy comes from.

Where we are now

Working with banks, insurers, and the firms that build.

Datum is already at work across all three — engaged today with a bank, an insurer and a construction firm. The engagements are confidential, so no names appear here; what follows is what the work actually involves, and how far along it is.

Fifteen years on the measurement side of carbon — life-cycle assessment, embodied and whole-life carbon, EPD validation, and accredited ISO 14064 verification — earned on giga-projects across the Middle East. That is a different starting point from the finance and ESG-reporting background most financed-emissions advice comes from, and it is where the accuracy comes from. Most of that work has run inside multinational delivery teams — Italian main contractors, Korean project management, engineers from across South Asia — where a carbon figure has to hold up in several languages and against several standards at once. He is now product owner of CarbonIQ, bringing that measurement discipline to the financial sector.
